means to an end

2018

48 x 60 in.

Mixed Media

this is a large scale piece. It is created with acrylic paint and gold leaf. The painting is about change. The title is a contrast to the meaning of the painting. All of the small things that change throughout the course of one's life are not just a means to an end, they are important for achieving the life we want. The inspiration came from the word Metanoia; the journey of changing one's mind, heart, self, or way of life. The small green rectangles flow throughout the painting to represent a path. All of the little drawings represent changes that I have gone through in my own life.

nothing in life comes for free. this piece is about taking control of your life. I began by painting "power is not given. it's taken," with gold gilding paint. the figures in the center represent starting from the bottom and moving upward. five-pointed stars represent finding your way in life. They are scattered throughout the piece.

maybe a year will go by

2018

12 x 12 in.

this is inspired by one of my favorite songs by reagan perniciaro. a line in the song says, "maybe a year will go by  and you will think of me."  the faintness of the words is used to correlate depth with time. as if when a year passes the words would disappear.
