My Favorite Art

My name is Lydia Byrne. Art is my truth. Art is not only a way to express myself, but a part of me. Art has been my passion since I was a young child. My mother has taught me about classical art my entire life. Such as Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet, Michelangelo, and more.  My older sister taught me about contemporary art. Learning about different types of art has influenced my own artistic style today.

My specific style are the pieces on the Mixed Media page. These pieces are created with acrylic paint and photographs. To begin a painting, I paint the background with colors that match how I am feeling about what is going on in my life at the time. The rest of the painting comes naturally, though there is meaning behind each part. Having more than one visual point makes the viewers eyes travel to each part of the painting. This may make the piece look messy, but there is beauty in chaos. Many shapes are left unfinished to make the viewer subconsciously feel discomfort. I do this because I find making art uncomfortable. Pouring my emotions out and expressing my life through each piece takes me to a place of intense vulnerability.

Art is meant to make you feel something, good or bad. The beautiful thing about art is the meaning you find within it. Everyone sees and feels different things when looking at a specific piece of art. Where one person may think a piece is sad, another may think it is happy. Overall, I want you to find your own truth through both of these pieces.
